Police arrested 5 suspects aged 33, 42, 47, 48 and 67 years old respectively for contravention of the illicit mining act in Kimberley on Saturday, the 15th June 2024. Police spokesperson sergeant Timothy Sam says while police patrolling around the old mining dumps in Lerato Park they spotted 5 suspects busy with mining activities without the necessary permits. Sam says numerous mining equipment, including spades, wheelbarrow, buckets, sieves and pick axle were confiscated. He says the suspects will appear at Kimberley magistrate court soon.
