The Department of Agriculture, Environmental Affairs,
Rural Development and Land Reform (DAERL) yesterday partnered with the
Department of Health (DOH) in Platfontein to host a health and nutrition
workshop. The Department of Agriculture reported that a large number of
community members, both young and old, attended the workshop to learn about the
importance of food gardens and healthy diets.Tsholofelo Tongwane, an Extension Practitioner with
the Department of Agriculture, conducted an analysis that revealed a pressing
need for food security in Platfontein, as many households rely on government
grants to support their livelihoods. The Department of Agriculture established
a food garden at Platfontein Clinic. Moreover, the Department of Agriculture
emphasized that establishing vegetable gardens at household levels can help
vulnerable families access nutritious food, promote healthy eating habits, and
