The Green Connection, an Environmental organisation
is back in court today and tomorrow to force the National Energy Regulator of
South Africa (Nersa) and the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE)
to provide more information regarding the Karpowerships deals.
The Green Connection has been opposing Karpowerships as a solution to South
Africa's energy crisis for over three years and argues that it is not just
about the financial costs associated with this technology, but also about its
potential to cause harm to the environment and the livelihoods of those who
depend on it. The Green Connection's Legal and Outreach Advisor, Priyanka
Naidoo, believes that South Africans need transparency about such projects to
fully understand the consequences of decisions that could affect their lives
and livelihoods, she goes on to say the following......INSERT [NAIDOO] Earthlife Africa Johannesburg and several other local environmental defenders
will be supporting The Green Connection today in a picket demonstration outside
the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria, as they are fighting for truth and justice,
for the upliftment of South Africa, and the protection of oceans and coastal
livelihoods.
