Zero Carbon Charge (ZeroCC) has announced the development of 36 off-grid
electric vehicle charging stations in the Northern Cape. As claimed by Joubert
Roux, a director, and co-founder of Zero Carbon Charge, the infrastructure
investment, totaling more than R15 billion, will be completed by September
2025. According to a statement, the 36 EV charging stations will located in 16
Municipalities across the Northern Cape, which includes the Dawid Kruiper and
!Khai Garib local municipalities. The statement goes on to say the EV stations will
be independent of Eskom's largely coal-powered grid, making them 100% green and
load shedding-proof. The progress will guarantee the reliability of South
Africa's energy supply going forward and assist meet the substantial demand for
EVs.
The
Northern Cape Economic Development Agency (NCEDA) is supporting the project,
aiming to facilitate the successful rollout of the development and prepare the
region for the
upcoming EV transition.
