Provincial heads, district commissioners and station
commanders from throughout the province in all 5 districts were out in full
force during the execution of operation Shanela on Friday, the 24th May
2024. Police spokesperson colonel Cherelle Ehlers says a total of 3732 persons
and 2207 vehicles were stopped and searched. Ehlers says compliance inspections
were conducted at firearm dealers, liquor premises, second-hand goods dealers
that led to the confiscation of a significant amount of alcohol and the closure
of 3 unlicensed liquor premises. She says provincial commissioner Lieutenant general
Koliswa Otola addressed a multi-disciplinary parade in Kimberley and encouraged
all role players to be vigilant and to display a zero tolerance approach
towards electoral offences in terms of the electoral act, act 73 of 1998.
