The Namakwa Special Economic Zone was virtually
launched this morning by the Premier of the Northern Cape, Dr Zamani Saul alongside the minister of the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition Ebrahim Patel in absentia.
In his address Saul said that the Namakwa SEZ is a confirmed investment
of R 29.3 billion which comprises of 1270 hectares of land. Saul said that the Namakwa
SEZ marks as a first for the province. According to the premier the SEZ will be
a catalyst for job creation as it will be a pathway to unparalleled job
opportunities, fostering small, medium and macro enterprises. He said that this
development has the potential to completely change the socio economic landscape
of the province as it will no longer just be a place to visit but also to
invest, innovate and thrive. Saul stated that with the help of Minister Patel before
the closure of the sixth administration it ensured that the SEZ be established
and launched. He said that the handing over of this development to the 7th
administration is done with a great sense of optimism and anticipation.
