Police arrested 18 men and 2 women foreign nationals including 9 South African men between the ages of 32 and 67 years old, 9 male Lesotho nationals, between the ages 30 and 53 years old and 2 South African women aged 30 and 34 years old for engaging in illegal mining activities and violation of immigration laws in De Beers, Samaria and Kenilworth yesterday, the 20th May 2024. Police spokesperson sergeant Molefi Shemane says during the arrest the police seized various mining equipment utilized in the illicit mining activities. Shemane says the arrested suspects are expected to appear at the Kimberley magistrate’s court soon.
