StatsSA has published their Quarterly Labour Force Survey (QLFS) for Quarter 1/2024 which for the Northern Cape reflects that the official unemployment rate of the province currently stands at 28.3%. These numbers according to statsSA results in the province still having the second lowest unemployment rate in the country after having gained 4 000 more jobs resulting in 331,000 employed persons in the province. The Northern Cape shows changes also making it one of three Provinces with the biggest increases in employment. The Northern Cape provincial government took note of these results in an official statement and at the turn attribute these numbers to Government interventions proving worthwhile and resulting in more jobs in the Community and Social Services Sector and on this further bind themselves in an official statement to together with their social partners, continue to ensure that they create more jobs for especially young people.
