Efforts to promote school safety were enhanced in the Frances Baard and John Taolo Gaetsewe districts during the past week where several schools were visited by the police and the department of education. Police spokesperson colonel Cherelle Ehlers says Kimberley, Roodepan, Galeshewe and Kagisho police visited schools in Kimberley and Delportshoop. Ehlers says police in the John Taolo Gaetsewe district visited schools in Kathu in conjunction with the department of education and the family and marriage society of South Africa. She says during searches conducted during the visits dangerous weapons and tobacco products were confiscated. Ehlers says police also conducted awareness interventions to address drug and alcohol abuse, gender-based violence related crimes and bullying.
