The Northern Cape Department of Education says it is
deeply concerned about the situation that is currently happening at AJ Ferreira
High School in Upington, as educators at the school staged a protest at the
school today, which disrupted learning and teaching, following the alleged
assault of an educator by a learner. The Department says it received a petition
from the educators and will give immediate attention to the demands raised. The demands raised in the petition includes
amongst others, improved support for educators and learners, increased security
on premises of the school, and the implementation of an effective system in the
dealing of disciplinary matters. Geoffrey Van Der Merwe, departmental
spokesperson elaborates.
