Provincial police welcomes a 10 year prison
sentence that was handed down to a 41 year old Kuruman mechanic for stealing a
client's motor vehicle. Police spokesperson Lieutenant colonel Sergio
Kock says the complainant allegedly took his white Toyota Venture for
repairs to Riaan Harmse in Kuruman on the 2nd February 2016. Kock
says after paying the mechanic to fix and panelbeat his vehicle, the
mechanic disappeared without informing the client. Kock says the
accused was arrested on the 26th September 2018 in Pretoria but unfortunately
the vehicle was not recovered. He says Riaan Harmse was found guilty of
motor vehicle theft at Mothibistad regional court and he was sentenced to 10
imprisonment of which 2 years is suspended for 5 years on the 3rd April
2024.
