SAMED takes stand to address Gender inequality in MEDTECH industry.

The South African Medical Technology Industry Association (SAMED) will host a launch event on 11 April 2024 in Sandton Johannesburg, to address the underrepresentation of women in the MedTech and healthcare industry. The program will be led by a group of accomplished women, including Dr Pinky Chirwa and Dr. Rolene Wagner. According to research, women make up 50.7% of South Africa’s population but only make up 45.5% of the employed workforce. 17.3% of women fill CEO and chairperson positions, and only 1 to 6% of government procurement ends up with women-owned businesses. The SAMED Catalyst of Change Forum aims to launch the SAMED Women Empowerment Index and SAMED YES youth portal, which will help create more than 100,000 new youth jobs in the MedTech and Healthcare sectors. SAMED urges its 150 members, the healthcare sector, and the general public to support increased female participation and advancement.
