The Democratic Alliance (DA) has requested the Provincial commissioner to send a senior team to Loeriesfontein to help end what they call the brutal killing spree in this town. This comes after the alleged killing of 2 victims in a space of less than 3 weeks. DA provincial constituency head for Hantam-Karoo Hoogland MP Gizella Opperman says the body of 17 year old Mariena Beukes was found on the premises of the town’s sports facility on Good Friday, the 29th March 2024. Opperman says violent killings in the Hantam region have become too familiar. According to information, in a separate incident, the naked body of an 18 year old Hesty-Anne Green was found under rubble at a dilapidated building in Brandvlei on the 31st December 2023.  Opperman says the naked and ravaged body of a 31 year old woman was discarded in a shallow grave covered with rocks on the outskirts of Calvinia in 2022.
