The Tsantsabane local municipality is currently engaged in the first phase of a water project which they refer to as the end street storm water project in newton. The municipality provides in an official statement that this project is one funded by the assmang beeshoek slp3 mine and is an secondary project which derives from the ongoing upgrade of storm water infrastructure across the municipal area. The municipality says that the project prioritized is based on the IDP of the Tsantsabane local municipality. The municipality expressed its gratitude to the community of newton for their patience and co-operation during the progress of this project and encouraged community members not to dump waste on the storm water to avoid blockages and floods. The municipality says they expect the project to be completed by the end of April 2024
