Kumba Iron Ore’s Kolomela mine says they recognize the importance of investing in community education. According to the mine’s report their bursary program supports promising students like Jeanette Van Der Westhuizen ensuring that talent and potential are nurtured for the benefit of society. It says Van der Westhuizen has been accepted into the University of Free State where she will pursue her LLB degree. Her journey began at Ratang Thuto high school where she completed her matric in 2023. Her advice to fellow learners echoes her passion “embrace the power of knowledge, seek understanding, question assumptions and never underestimate the impact you can have on society.
