The South African Police Service says they arrested 4 women between the ages of 24 and
45 years old and 67 men between the ages of 20 and 63 years old during the
operation Vala Umgodi. The police says these suspects were arrested while they were busy digging on Karee Boom farm near Kimberley yesterday,
the 26th March 2024. Police spokesperson sergeant Molefi Shemane
says the police together with the South African National defense Force conducted high
density patrols in hotspot areas linked to illegal mining within the designated
district of Frances Baard when they confiscated numerous sieves, a blue VW polo
vehicle and a bicycle. Shemane says police will continue unabatedly to disrupt
illegal mining activities in the province and the suspects will appear in court
soon.
