South
Africa commemorates Global Recycle Day today 18 March 2024. The day is commemorated to highlight the
significant amount of waste paper and paper packaging produced. Research shows that while more than 1 million tons of paper and packaging are recycled
annually on average, a notable quantity is wasted when it is thrown out with
garbage, left lying around, or kept in homes and companies. Samantha Choles, the communications manager for the Paper
Manufacturers Association of South Africa, believes that recycling paper is a
great place to start when it comes to cutting down waste.
The
African Reclaimers Organisation (ARO) has recently established a sorting
center in Selby, Johannesburg, after three years of stalled talks with the City
of Johannesburg.
The
center, which has been operational for over a year now, has generated enough
income to pay 27 reclaimers and other operational expenses within six months. JDT Recycling in Upington stated that they will keep
cleaning Upington and the surrounding area as usual and that every day is
