The provincial police says they have noted
with concern the increase in the number of drowning cases reported recently. Police
spokesperson colonel Cherelle Ehlers says members of the community are urged to
implement or practice the following precautionary measures to ensure their
safety when swimming or fishing to prevent drownings. Ehlers says do not swim
in areas where the current is strong, never swim while you are intoxicated, look
out for warning signs and flags indicating the area is dangerous for swimming.
She says parents must never leave a young child unattended near water and never
make a child responsible for another child.
