opportunity to join hands with the South African human rights commission and
other stakeholders in offering support to a private litigation matter in
respect of Kimberley’s growing sewerage crisis. DA member of the NCOP MP Ms. Delmaine
Christians says Sol Plaatje’s ongoing failure to
get the Homevale wastewater treatment plant fully operational is central to
growing sewage spills along R31, N12 and the extremely high-water levels at
Kamfers Dam. Christians says the dam used to be home to the world’s largest
lesser flamingo population, but this is no longer the case, due to the
increasing depth of the water and pollution caused by untreated effluent. Christians
