In 2021, Kimberley, Kuruman and Colesberg were identified as human trafficking hot spots in the Northern Cape. Law enforcement agencies and stakeholders have since increased their action of educating the communities about human trafficking. The most recent incident is where 14 undocumented children were found on a bus in Kimberley on its way to Cape Town in December 2023. As part of continuous awareness actions, the Hawks, together with the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS), and Community Safety joined forces earlier today, to spread awareness about drug addiction and human trafficking in Kimberley.
