A total of 554 public ordinary schools
in the Northern Cape are set to participate in the 2024 SGB Elections with the
official start of the campaign tomorrow. The Department of Education in the Northern
Cape Province says it has put systems in place to ensure that the 2024 SGB
elections are run smoothly and in accordance with the principles of democracy,
transparency, non-racism, non-sexism, accountability and most importantly, with
the responsibility they deserve. According to the department training of
provincial, district and school electoral officers have already been completed.
Furthermore, the department says it needs School Governing Bodies that will
support curriculum delivery with the focus on the improvement of learner
achievement by supporting schools in developing strategies for improving
teaching and learning. The 2024 School Governing Body Elections will
take place under the theme: "Advancing teaching and learning through
collaboration and good governance". The department has made an appeal to
all members of society to make themselves available for nomination, attend
meetings and participate in the SGB elections.
