The South African Police Service says they arrested 2 suspects for illegal possession of drugs and contravention of the immigration act in the Frances Baard and Buffelsfivier in Namakwa district, between the 9th and the 13th of February 2024. Police spokesperson sergeant Timothy Sam says numerous illicit mining equipment including generators, bags with diamond bearing gravel, sieves, mining lights, classifiers, spades, pick axes and a trailer were confiscated. Sam says a 62 year old man was also arrested and charged under the illicit mining act. The suspects are expected to appear in their respective magistrate courts soon.
