THE NORTHERN CAPE’S FLAGSHIP MUSIC FESTIVAL, DIAMONDS AND DORINGS RETURNS.

The department of Sport, Arts and Culture says, after a four-year hiatus, the annual Diamonds and Dorings Music Festival will return next year. The department says, after establishing itself as a premier entertainment event for several years, Diamonds and Dorings was taken off the entertainment schedule in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, National Treasury cost-control measures, and financial limitations faced by the Sol Plaatje Municipality. Spokesperson of the department Condrade Fortune says, the department was given permission by the municipality to host the event this year, subject to certain special requirements, including that the Department bear all expenses related to organizing the festival in 2024. Fortune says, if the Department needs access to any Sol Plaatje Municipality properties to host the festival in 2024, it will be the Department's responsibility to get in touch with the Municipality and request the required permissions to use and access those properties. Fortune also says, the Kgalagadi Jazz Festival in Kuruman, the NamCufe in Pella Namaqua, the Damas Festival in Rietfontein, and now the Diamond and Dorings Festival—which the Department previously funded and is now renewing their commitment to the Frances Baard District, specifically the Sol Plaatje Local Municipality.
