In a strengthened collaboration Avbob in partnership with Oxford University Press Southern Africa (OUPSA) today launched the third AVBOB road to literacy campaign. The initiative is set to make a significant impact on the country’s literacy landscape by addressing the severe literacy crisis revealed in the latest Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS) findings from 2021. The study found that 75% of SA schools face a shortage of reading material with grade 4 learners struggling to read for meaning.  Morné Scholtz, manager social programmes, says five learning institutions in the Northern Cape were beneficiaries of the campaign which includes the Cornelius Saal, Hantam Community Education Trust, Laerskool Andalusia, Re Tlameleng Special School and the Williston Junior Kollege. He says that they hope to have more schools and educational institutions from the Northern Cape for 2024. Scolts elaborates on the campaign. Insert  -  Avbob
