The South African Police Service says they arrested 3 suspects for contravention of the
Illicit mining act and confiscated numerous illicit mining equipment including
generators, jack hammers, bags with gravel, hand hammers, and a panga amongst others in Kommagas, Buffelsrivier and Kleinsee on the 7th of February 2024. Police spokesperson sergeant Timothy Sam says the total estimated value of the
confiscated items amounts to more than R287 000-00. Sam says the
suspects will appear in their respective magistrate courts soon. He says illicit
mining activities in the Namakwa district by depriving criminals their
operational tools.
