Mid last year during the last days of June 2023 the Namakwa district was hit by devastating floods which caused damage the the extend that some roads were washed away leaving residents stranded in the process. Following this devastation, the MEC for roads and public works Bentley Vass made the commitment that the department would plough all their efforts into repairing the damage caused and true to that commitment made,   department Workers of the Namakwa General Maintenance team are currently reconstructing the low water bridge on the DR2936 road from Groenriviersplit, Kotzesrus to Lepelsfontein as this low water bridge was damaged and washed away during the floods. The department says that as part of the construction they are inserting bigger culverts which will improve stormwater drainage during incessant rainfall.
