Agnes Segomotsi Setshwantsho, a woman from the North West
Province, has made an appearance in court on charges of murder and fraud. It is
alleged that Setshwantsho killed her own child to collect a large
insurance payout. The incident allegedly took place at Kuruman Hospital under suspicious
circumstances. The National Procecuting Authority says, currently in custody, Setshwantsho was denied bail by the
Mmabatho District Court on January 19, 2024. The NPA says, in addition to the charges related
to her child's death, she is also facing similar charges in connection with the
deaths of other family members whom she had insured. The accused will remain in
custody until her next court appearance on March 12, 2024, at the Kuruman
Magistrate's Court. NPA spokesperson Mojalefa Senokoatsane says authorities are conducting further investigations into the
case, and the accused is awaiting the appointment of an attorney to represent
her.
