Witnesses who were scheduled to appear at the Upington magistrates court yesterday did not show up for the inquest into the death of Fransiena Basson—the wife of the former speaker of the Dawid Kruiper municipality, Thomas Basson. Basson is accused of running his wife over with his car, on May 16, 2015. He claims that he mistook his wife for a dog. The inquest is to proceed on March 19 and 20, 2024, as to the court's schedule, when expert testimonies will be given before the court.
