Police arrested 3 Somalian men on the N1 road in Colesberg, in Pixely Ka-Seme district yesterday, the 30th of January 2024. Police spokesperson brigadier Mashay Gamieldien says police spotted the silver VW Polo and stopped it. Gamieldiens says, when the vehicle stopped, 1 of the suspects jumped out, ran and while running he fired shots at the police who returned fire, injuring the suspect. Gamieldien says the other 2 occupants in the vehicle were arrested and the injured suspect received medical treatment. She says none of the police officials were injured during the incident. According to information, police found an undisclosed amount of cash, 5 cell phones, a magazine with ammunition and 1 cartridge in their possession. The 3 suspects will appear at Colesberg magistrate’s court on the 1st February 2024 on charges of attempted murder, possession of suspected stolen property and tampering with the registration plate.
