Department is pleased by the conviction of four Zimbabwean nations in Kuruman.

Four Zimbabwean nationals have been convicted and sentenced to 10 years in prison by the Kuruman Magistrates Court in the Northern Cape. The men were found in possession of 2, 850 Protected Plant Species, valued at approximately over R440, 000 without any permit. The arrests were made in 2022, and after questioning, the fourth suspect was also apprehended. The Northern Cape Department of Agriculture, Environmental Affairs, Rural Development, and Land Reform applauded the successful conviction and sentencing of the four men, stating that this action demonstrates the commitment to combat illegal activities involving Specially Protected Species. This outcome sends a strong message that those involved will face the consequences of their actions.
