More learners from independent schools are moving camp to public schools.

The Northern Cape department of education says, prior to the closure of the 2023 academic year they met with Independent Schools with the purpose of reflecting on the state of Independent Schools and strengthen existing collaborative partnerships as an Education Sector.  Acting HOD for the department Gideon Oliphant during the meeting emphasized that there is a high number of learners who leave independent schools for public schools. Oliphant said that this change was evident through the online admission processes in 2023. He said this raises the need to delve deeper into the reasons and explore creative ways in which the department can ensure that this does not disrupt the system as a whole.
