Social development outreach program in kuruman

The MEC for Social Development, Nontobeko Vilakazi supported by partners in the Social Sector visited the community of Babatas in Kuruman yesterday to advocate on a number of social issues. The MEC in her remarks during the outreach program. Vilakazi in her remarks noted that social workers under the department are overwhelmed with cases of gender-based violence and child neglect while the police overworked on issues that should not have existed further noting that at the core of all societal problems is the use of drugs, irresponsible drinking and reckless sexual behaviour and practices. The MEC therefore made a plea to all to take hands and fight gender-based violence and all other social ills together. During this event 100 older persons and vulnerable women each received a shopping voucher to the tune of R1 100.00 to ensure that they and their loved ones have a happy Christmas.
