Kolomela mine and UFS assist grade 9's to make better subject choices.

Kumba Iron Ore’s Kolomela mine in partnership with the University of the Free State held a special career and subject choice fair  with the intention to assist Grade 9 learners make adequate  subject choices.  Learners from four local high schools, namely Blinkklip, Ratang Thuto, Postmasburg, and Shiloah Academy, participated in the informative subject fair in Postmasburg. Louis Lucas, a student recruitment officer at UFS, describes a subject choice at the age of 15, as a very daunting task. Lucas urged the Grade 9s to make subject choices that will enhance their future career aspirations. In a statement the mine says that through regular career exhibitions, the mine exposes host community learners to a range of career options. The current pool of grade 9 learners will in the 2024 academic year be faced with the all-important choice of deciding which subjects to pursue until matric,  which is often based on frivolous reasons that might later result in problems later when they have to seek for placement  at tertiary  institutions.
