Commemoration of 71st anniversary of Mayibuye Uprising

The Northern Cape Department of Sport, Arts, and Culture will host an intergenerational social dialogue in observance of the 71st anniversary of the 1952 Mayibuye Uprisings at Abantu Batho Hall in Galeshewe, in the Frances Baard District on Saturday, 11 November 2023. The department says, the purpose of the social dialogue is to discuss preservation of Mayibuye Precinct as a heritage site with both young and old. The leadership of the Frances Baard and Sol Plaatje Municipalities, as well as MEC for Sport, Arts, and Culture, Desery Fienies, will grace the occasion. The department says it will collaborate with the Department of Education, on this program. Students from different high schools in the Kimberley region are expected to participate in this instructive social conversation. The discussion, which will be led by Sephai Mngqolo, a well-known historian from the Northern Cape, who will introduce the younger generation to the realities of 1952 while looking for answers to the problems that face society daily. MEC Fienies is expected to give the keynote address.
