Research shows that health facilities in the Northern Cape are poorly serviced. This relates to basic services amongst others Emergency Medical Care, Cleaning and Infection Control, Drug and Medical Supply Stocks and Standard Operating hours. The department of health in the province previously admitted to having a challenge of shortage of medical doctors at health facilities including the Dr. Harry Surtie Hospital in Upington. With the youth unemployment rate for youth in the Northern Cape currently standing at 42.4% is the department encouraging young people with the necessary qualifications to apply for the 2024 Nursing Diploma at Henrietta Stockdale Nursing College in Kimberley. The department says, this is a full time study opportunity and applications are strictly online. According to the department, the closing date is 24 November 2023.
