The farmers day market underway in Kimberley shines the
spotlight on food insecurity. Phemelo Manankong, communications officer for the
department Agriculture in the Northern Cape said that SA is a food insecure
country and through initiatives such as the farmers market aims to use the
platform to address the matter through the encouragement of growing backyard
food gardens. A farmer who produces honey from bee keeping and another who
sells chicken and eggs are amongst others forming part of the market day. Manankong
