Residents are
warned not to let anyone have access to their homes as many people are now
faking to be government employees to scam people. The South African Police
Service have warned that scams get worse during this time of the year and is a
safety hazard as it will also have the lives of residents in danger. There is a
message currently circulating on WhatsApp of a group of people that are
allegedly going door-to-door pretending to be Home Affairs policers. According
to information, they assert to be able to verify that every voter has a current
identity card for the 2024 local and national government
elections. Residents are urged to be aware that the government has not
taken any such action and is advised to not give them any information and
this is all a ruse. Patrick Davids the Office Manager of
Upington Offices says they are unaware. Residents are however urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious acts to law enforcement immediately.
