BirdNC a non-profit organisation in the Upington local area
spoke to Radio Riverside about their continued work towards alleviating food
insecurity within our communities. The manager of the organisation Jacobus

individuals to be farmers and continuously try to get residents within the area
to make use of their backyards and plant fruits and vegetables enough that they
could eat out of their gardens more than having to go out to stores to purchase
food. Basson says as an organisation have been able to create a learnership
opportunity for 1300 youths Upington and have now been invited to participate in a competition
in Rwanda to represent south Africa and present their work towards ensuring
food security to stand a Chance to win R1000 000, which he says as an
organisation they can use to continue their work in communities to train even
more young farmers and make learnerships available for the youth in the
Upington area.
