The departmnet of Sport, Arts and Culture in the Northern Cape says, its MEC Desery Finies will on Saturday, 21 October 2023 unveil the tombstone in memory of the late Motlhwahatse "Laaities" Keupilwe. The department says the program will unfold at 1332 Itsoseng Street, Nanana
Section, Batlharos. According to a statement by the department Keupilwe's homestead will be the site of the memorial
unveiling. The department of sport, arts and culture says the tombstone is unveiled to pay tribute to a language and cultural
activist who made significant contributions to the growth and maintenance of
Setswana culture. Spokesperson of the department Condrate Fortune says Keupilwes passion for the Setswana language has helped the
arts community and brought communities across the nation together with his
traditional song and dance, making him a remarkable speaker and a true legend. Fortune says, in
addition, he was a superb poet and Setswana traditional musician, having won different honours including becoming the first Setswana artist to win the South African Traditional Music Award (SATMA) for Best Setswana Album.
