The MEC responsible for Finance, Economic
Development and Tourism, Abraham Vosloo convened an SMME Imbizo at the Guardian
Angels Nursery School in Kakamas, in the Kai Gariep municipal area the past
weekend. Through this imbizo the department intended to create a platform
between the Department and SMMEs on the roll out of phase two (2) of the
Township and Rural Economic Programme (TREP), a flagship programme developed by
the Department of Economic Development and Tourism. This program is a
manifestation of the Growth and Development Programme (GEDF) which was an
anchor Programme aimed at providing financial support for SMMEs across the province. 7
SMMEs in the Kai Gariep Municipal area who qualified for the programme received
equipment during the Imbizo. Various stakeholders such as SEFA, SEDA, and NYDA
formed part of the Imbizo. Vosloo handed over a cheque to the value of R 20 000
to the Guardian Angels Nursery school, which is a part of multiple beneficiaries
who received financial aid.
