As commander-in-chief of the country's armed forces,
President Cyril Ramaphosa has expressed his sorrow over the deaths of six
soldiers who perished in a Northern Cape fire that hit the SA Army Combat
Training Centre at the Lohatla military base. The soldiers were taking part in
an exercise called Vukuhlome. The South African National Defence Force reported
that a wildfire that started in Khathu in the Gamagara local municipality had
made its way to a military base, where it killed six soldiers, injured three
others, and destroyed or damaged the army's vehicles and equipment. The
families, friends, and coworkers of the deceased SANDF members have President
Ramaphosa's sincere condolences. The President sends his best wishes for a
quick and painless recovery to the injured SANDF members and sends his
condolences to the victims' survivors.
