The Hartswater Regional Court recently imposed a 26 years imprisonment sentence to 27 year old Tsholofelo Sydney Wesi for raping a 27 year old female victim on Saturday, 07 September 2019.
The Court heard that the victim was hitch-hiking home to Sekhing village, Pampierstad when she was accosted by the suspect offering to accompany her home as it was dark, a gesture she kindly accepted. According to the police, the suspect took out a knife and robbed the victim of her money and proceeded to rape her twice in different locations.
The Court sentenced Tsholofelo the accused, to 18 years imprisonment for 2 counts of rape and 8 years for robbery, both sentences will run concurrently while the court also ordered the accused name be entered in the national register for sexual offences, and is declared unfit to possess a firearm.
The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola, welcomed the Court outcome, citing that it will serve as a deterrent to other rapists.
