It is not clear when the former chairperson of the ANC in the province and former MEC for finance and economic development John Fikile Block will be released on parole. His applications for remission of sentence remains on the table of the department of correctional services. The high court in Kimberley recently handed down a ruling giving the department 21 days to re concider Blocks application. Communications manager of the department of Correctional services in Upington Steady Nawa said all communication regarding Blocks case is handled by the Free State and Northern Cape regional area while the communications manager of the regional office also said the matter is under the communication of the national department of Correctional services. He said he is still waiting the repply from the national department on the matter. The spokesperson of the provincial NPA Mojalefa Senokoatsane says Block appeared at the Kimberley court together with other accused in the Kimberley New Mental Hospital yessterday, where he is accused number 2. Senokoatsane says the matter has been postponed to the 8th February 2024 to give accused an opportunity to apply for legal representation.
