The MEC for Social Development, Ms Nontobeko Vilakazi on Tuesday, 26 September 2023 led an outreach programme for Older Persons in Roodepan, Kimberley. The department conducted this program in the attendance of 200 older person and provides in an official statement that the purpose of this outreach program was to extend an assistive hand as many older persons rae the main caregivers to their own children and even grndchildren and do this with the social grant as an income and with the rising cost of living cannot get through the month with the grant only. As part of this outreach program the department each older person received a shopping voucher to supplement their food needs and necessities while the SAPS was also invited to speak on the services and rights to older persons, SASSA on the types of grants and assistance provided to all, and the Department of Health at their turn spoke on healthy living and medical care and also the Local Municipality on services to residents in Roodepan.
