The Democratic Alliance (DA) says it has launched a petition in opposition to the Sol Plaatje municipality’s unlawful attempt to push through a gap-housing development in Southridge, Kimberley.
During a Council meeting yesterday, the DA, together with the Vryheidsfront Plus, refused to participate in the vote on this item because we are of the firm view that it is unlawful and that Sol Plaatje is flouting processes. The DA is accusing the Sol Plaatje is manipulating its land and other immovable assets policy, through its decision to sell the property at less than 40% of its market value. It says this clause is intended only for sale of property to state organs and may not be applied to sales to individuals. The DA says the municipality’ actions will also have significant consequences for Southridge property owners, who are already suffering major sewerage issues in the areas, due to an overburdened sewerage network. It says it has repeatedly voiced our discontent to this premature development.
