Police arrested 867 suspects during the illicit mining operation conducted in the Kleinzee area on the 19th and the 20th September 2023. Police spokesperson Lieutenant colonel Sergio Kock says the operation was led by the provincial commissioner Lieutenant general Koliswa Otola herself. Kock says police across the province made routine visits at ATM's, business premises, national key points, Post Offices and tuckshops. He says numerous mining implements and equipment were also seized during the operations and the Springbok hostel in Kleinzee was totally demolished. According to information, Otola reiterated that police and stakeholders will continue to ensure that they squeeze the space for criminals to operate.
