The Department of Basic Education through its school enrichment programmes, yesterday commenced with heritage day celebrations, which is to be concluded today. These celebrations are underway at the Northern Cape Theatre, under the theme 'heritage changes'. The activities this year are inclusive of drama, poetry, music and dance. The Department has been conducting workshops per district throughout the month of August in preparation for the event on the two days. The department says that this is in line with the Curriculum Statement which speaks of the 'holistic potential of children, which implies focusing on all aspects of their growth and not just their academic advancements. The department says that todays activities will primarily focus on celebrating the diverseness that encompasses the province and the rich history it was founded on.
