Rapist sentenced

The South African Police Service says in a case that occurred on 27 November 2010 in Strydenburg, five men were found guilty of raping and attempting to rape an 18-year-old female. The police says, the incident took place at a house where the accused men were drinking with the victim. Four of them reportedly took turns assaulting and raping her, while the fifth one also attempted to rape her but was fought off. The victim escaped and sought help from neighbors, who then called the police. According to the police the men were arrested the following day but were only granted bail after eleven months. On 12 September 2023, Joseph Kasper, Pieter Visser, Elcardo Demas, and Kobus Daniels were sentenced to 15 years in prison for rape, while Elton Van Rooyen received a 10-year sentence for attempted rape.
