Police held women gathering in Galeshewe, Kimberley

The Galeshewe police in conjunction with the community police Forum (CPF) and women of wisdom NGO embarked on a women empowerment program in Galeshewe, Kimberley yesterday, under the theme "stronger women, stronger world." Police spokesperson sergeant Timothy Sam says the purpose of the program was to encourage women to empower each other and talk to the wider challenges women and children face with regards to safety and security, poverty and access to economic opportunities. Sam says women were reminded that its critical for women not to look at each other on the basis of their social status women must stand together without classifying each other. He says stakeholders raised numerous issues ranging from domestic violence, victim support, access to justice, changing social norms, parental values and the creation of economic opportunities for women who are vulnerable to abuse because of poverty.
