Police arrested a suspect in Kimberley

The South African Police Service in the Northern Cape confirms that two of its members were shot dead this morning in Kimberley. In a statement, the office of the provincial commissioner said Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola is saddened and shocked by the fatal shooting incident. Police spokesperson Brigadier Mashay Gamieldien says a 38-year-old suspect has been arrested and will appear in court soon on a charge of murder. Gamieldien says the two members, a sergeant and a constable followed up on information about a stolen Transnet bakkie which was allegedly stolen and was on its way from Bloemfontein. She says the vehicle was spotted in Kimberley and the two members responded when they spotted the vehicle and gave chase where they followed the stolen vehicle to the Transnet premises and the suspect crashed the bakkie and fled the scene on foot. The deceased members chased the suspect which led to the fatal shooting of the two members. Lieutenant General Otola conveyed her deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the two fallen members…… INSERT (MASHAY)
